This month, the animals are inviting us to PAUSE.
Not to give up or disconnect. But to shift into a deeper rhythm—one that moves with life rather than against it. It’s a “dog days of summer vibe,” a rhythm where the space between moments matters just as much as the moments themselves. It’s a space to realize and actualize all we’ve learned so far this year with the animals.
Each month’s message has been guiding us layer by layer—through curiosity, stillness, WITH (just to name a few!) —and now, in August, the animals bring us to PAUSE, where we take a breath to allow all of that wisdom to integrate and gently take root.
PAUSE is not an absence. It’s a presence. For me, it’s that sacred space between breaths—where presence, healing, and guidance live - if only I accept the invitation.
The animals show us this all the time. A dog settling in the grass with eyes half-closed, not asleep but utterly aware. A cat pausing mid-step before continuing across the room. A horse who turns and waits, rather than rushing forward.
Animals don’t overthink it. They don’t resist it. They honor the pause because they understand that’s where the body resets, where clarity can arise and where our personal truth gets a chance to be heard.
This August, we’re being invited to honor the power of PAUSE. Try not filling every blank space. Try breathing more deeply and listening more slowly. Try pausing before you answer, before you rush in. And what if you pause before your thoughts, your false beliefs, your ego has a chance to override what our inner wisdom is whispering. In that pause, can you hear it, feel it, see it? In that pause, can you chose a different direction thereby breaking a pattern that no longer serves you?
Pause & Grief
For many of us, this pause doesn’t just arrive—it’s forced open by something tender. Sometimes, that something is grief.
In the wake of loss, we often find ourselves dropped into a place where nothing feels linear or certain. Where the energy to "do" has dissolved. And we’re left, instead, with space. Unfamiliar. Unwanted, maybe. But sacred.
Grief asks us to pause.
It asks us to stop moving long enough to feel what’s there. To sit with the ache, the memory, the longing. To meet ourselves in that vulnerable space between what was and what will be. For me and Lukas, this will be our particular area of focus because this is the first anniversary of my dad’s passing. I don’t know what to expect but/and/also I know I’m being gingerly held so that I can allow the feelings to flow and not bury them or lock them down. By pausing, I’ll be able to assess what’s going on in my body emotionally, physically and relationally so I can move with the grief and sadness for transformation.
I’ll be watching for how Lukas and all the animals around me - especially at this month’s Pet Loss Grief Circle (August 17) - will walk with us in that pause. Sometimes they’ll be nudging us toward stillness. Or maybe curling up beside us in silence. Sometimes simply being—and teaching us how to be in our sadness, our anger, even our letting go. What a transformation this pause can offer - especially through their companionship along the way!
So whether you are grieving something tangible or something invisible... whether you’re simply feeling the heaviness of the world, or yearning for your next clear direction... the animals are here to say:
Let the pause support you. Let it show you something new. Let it gently shift what’s ready to change.
Because the pause is not empty. It is alive. It is filled with guidance, compassion, and the quiet clarity that only emerges when we stop trying to race ahead.
Let this month be one where you choose to pause—with your animal beside you.
Let them show you how it’s done.
Reflection Prompt:
How is my animal inviting me to pause right now—and why might they be offering that invitation at this particular moment in my life?
Feel free to share in the comments and/or at our Animals’ Message Monthly Meet-Up - see below for details.
