Rest, Restore & Renew

The Animals' Message for November

November’s message from the animals is one we all need right now: Rest, Restore, and Renew.

Whether you’re moving toward winter in the Northern Hemisphere or spring in the Southern, nature is inviting us to align with her rhythm. It’s the sacred balance of slowing down and coming alive, each in their own time.

As the pace of the world begins to accelerate toward the holidays, this message is a loving reminder to slow down, breathe, and let your animal guide you back to balance.

The Practice for November

As we move into November, I feel the animals inviting us to align with the natural rhythms unfolding all around us.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the leaves are falling, the air is cooling, and many animals are settling into hibernation. Nature is turning inward. In the Southern Hemisphere, blossoms are opening, babies are being born, and the Earth is expanding into light. Different expressions — same wisdom: life renews itself through rhythm, through cycles of rest and return.

This message feels especially timely as we enter the holiday season. The world’s pace speeds up — gatherings, travel, shopping, expectations. It can feel counter-productive to pause. Yet the animals keep reminding me that this is exactly why rest matters most right now.

Take me for example. If I move through this time depleted, I can’t show up as my full self — for my family, my clients, or Lukas. Rest, Restore, and Renew isn’t about withdrawal. While there may be an element of that in order to renew, when I can truly honor the practice, it actually becomes preparation for presence.

I learned this again after a joyful but exhausting weekend in New York City with Karen and Meredith from The Animal Communication Podcast. The event was wonderful, but when I came home, I was completely wiped out. My body whispered, “Stop.” Even Lukas who had gone hiking in Wisconsin with my husband over the weekend reflected this to me by snuggling his 75 pound body over mine, making it really hard to leave the bed. I mean seriously - who really wants their animal to leave their side in that situation? I, for one, don’t and had no problem using it as the excuse to stay in bed and read for the entirety of the day. It was lovely!

And what I realized that what restored me wasn’t more doing - which is what I typically try and do. Instead, it was that quite time with Lukas, reading and listening to his snoring. Later in the day, we transitioned to walking slowly in the nature preserve, finding out from all of our friends there what had transpired in our absence. That was my restoration.

So I’ve been asking — and I invite you to ask too:

“What truly restores me?”
“What helps me feel renewed?”

Our animals show us every day. They nap without guilt. They stretch before rising. They rest when they’re tired and play when they’re ready. They follow their own rhythms without apology — and they invite us to do the same.

And as we rest, grief often enters the room, too. Whether our grief is fresh or familiar, the holidays can bring it to the surface. Grief slows us down, much like the trees drawing sap to their roots or bears curling into their dens. Rather than pushing it aside, I’m learning to let grief guide me toward what needs renewal. Sometimes, it’s the doorway to a deeper kind of restoration.

The animals tell me that rest is active alignment. And I love this because, for me, it gives me permission to allow myself the slower pace I need and yet tend to consistently override. When I rest, I’m not stepping away from life; I’m integrating it. Rest is where listening deepens, where stillness becomes sacred, where everything we’ve practiced this year — trust, curiosity, compassion — comes together. We’ve done a lot of work with our animal coaches this year. Our bodies need time to catch up.

Rest is the sacred pause between chapters. It is the breath between the exhale of what’s ending and the inhale of what’s to come. As 2025 winds down, this pause is preparing us for 2026 — for the new energy that’s waiting to be born through us.

So this month, I’m giving myself permission — and I hope you will too — to Rest, Restore, and Renew, right alongside our animals. They already know the rhythm. Let’s follow their lead and let this season refill us from the inside out.

🕯Reflection Prompts

If you’d like to explore this message more deeply with your animals, here are a few prompts to journal with:

  • When my animal rests, how do they model balance for me?

  • What kind of rest does my body and spirit crave right now?

  • How does grief invite me into renewal rather than resistance?

  • How is my animal friend - whether alive or in-spirt - showing me to follow this month’s message?
